New Single Home Of Slave Dropping

On October 9, 2020 I have a new single dropping called “Home of the Slaves”. The single will be available on all streaming outlets including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, Tidal, and YouTube Red just name a few.

The track was produced by Anno Domini. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by me, myself and I.

I wrote this track a year ago. I was putting together an EP exclusively using Anno Domini beats. I had enough tracks for the EP but recently decided to rather drop the songs as singles so a few more tracks are to be expected.

The lyrical content of Home of the Slave is basically about economical slavery and the history of America being one big slave plantation. I once read this quote that said “the day Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation we went from chattel slavery, to economical slavery”. I think it was Mumia Abu Jamal that said it. I don’t quite remember but the quote stuck with me. I understood exactly what was meant. Most people don’t get it or rather don’t want to. Those that have an idea what economical slavery is still don’t completely understand how deep it goes because they believe that they are free from it.

I read that quote I mentioned nearly 20 years ago. George L Jackson also talked about economical slavery in detail within his writings Blood in my Eye and Soledad Brothers. I did quite a bit of research on the topic all while referencing it all to my own personal life experience. Then in 2019 I came across two books: From Niggas To Gods vol.1 and 2 By author Akil. Akil really went in on the topic and my head lit up like lighthouse. The track was most definitely inspired by my reading From Niggas To Gods. These books had a huge impact on me to say the least. They were the spark that lit the fire which burned and forged into this song.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself. And I’ll tell you this; I have always been one to question everything. One thing I have questioned for as long as I could remember was the whole concept of fighting for freedom and dying for freedom that is indoctrinated into everyone in the US. It made no sense to me at all. Fight for freedom? I was born free. Freedom is our God given birthright. You don’t see animals fighting for freedom do you? They are just free just as we should be. Ok they fight to survive but that’s totally different. Dying for freedom? That’s idiotic if you ask me. You do not realize freedom once you die. You’re dead. End of story. So how does one die for freedom? Oh wait, you die so that others will have freedom is that it? So, one is willing to sacrifice the most precious gift bestowed upon them so that others who aren’t even fighting for themselves, may bask in this so called freedom? Get the fuck out of here. I am no genius but I know if we as human beings can invent weapons of mass destruction and create these wars we have been fighting since America was founded, we have the ability to create peace and design a way in which all humans can live together freely while working towards reaching our maximum capabilities.

In my eyes the truth, is we as a people have not truly experienced freedom in a long time. We have forgotten what true freedom even is. They fail to see that by definition no one is truly free.

Calling America the land of the free is an oxymoron full well knowing America imprisons more humans than anywhere on the planet. The so called richest country on the planet also has millions of people working their asses off on a daily but yet live below the poverty line. Everyone just blindly goes along with the grand scheme of pursuing and obtaining freedom in which they never find. No one can grant another freedom. Your freedom is your birthright and you must take it. No one is given freedom in America. They are promised freedom. But no one ever receives this freedom they speak of. Those that believe they are free are delusional.

America was founded on and built by slavery. Knowing this how can anyone not see that it is also maintained by slavery. Not by the type of slavery we have been taught in school or by watching television and movies. No, it's a more elaborate and sophisticated form of slavery. A type of slavery where the slaves are clueless that they are even slaves. During the times of chattel slavery many that were born into slavery had no clue that they were actually slaves. They were born into that way of life. It is all they knew. Capitalism is no different. During the chattel slavery period it was all about free labor, yet there were still some expenses that needed to be covered. The slaves had to first be purchased. Then the slaves needed to be fed, clothed and housed. This was of course done keeping costs as low as possible so to maximize profits. These days whether you are working a minimum wage job or a Fortune 500 job there is literally no difference. Those working a Fortune 500 job may believe they are living the dream but it is just that; a dream. It is a dream that in a blink of an eye can turn into a nightmare. You are owned by your employers. Sure you can quit your job and find another job but it is no different than a slave being shipped from one plantation to another. Maybe it’s my indigenous and African blood but I have never felt truly free living in whoever’s idea this is of what a society should be like. Hell I don’t feel free in a country where what I am saying right here and now would be considered treasonous. Here is another quote I absolutely love: “I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.” ~James Baldwin. Except for me it’s the entire planet.

I don’t expect everyone to understand where I am coming from on this track. Hell if it wasn’t for mirrors people wouldn’t believe you if you told them they have a nose in the middle of their faces even though they breathe through it. The truth is an acquired taste. It is an acquired taste I have come to love.

As I said I wrote Home of the Slave about a year ago. I had since moved on to different projects and pretty much completely forgot about it. Going into September of 2020 I had the urge to release a single while we mix down what will be my sophomore album which is called 11:11. I have already put the cover artwork out for 11:11 for all to see. As I was going through songs I came across Home of the Slave. I was pretty blown away. I was like damn I forgot I even wrote this. I looked no further. I felt the timing was perfect to drop this song. I immediately started rehearsing it so to record it.

What makes this track even more special to me is that I recorded it myself. I also mixed it myself. It is the first time in over 10 years I have mixed a project. For those that don’t know I studied music engineering in college. I also had my own recording studio. I ended up dropping out of school and closing my studio when I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease. Meniere's disease is a disorder of the inner ear that leads to dizzy spells (vertigo) and severe hearing loss. In most cases, Meniere's disease affects only one ear but I wasn’t so lucky. Both of ears were affected and I struggle with this disease till this day. My hearing actually fluctuates daily so some days I can work while on others I can not. I felt blessed that I had a string of good days so to get all my vocals tracked and the single mixed and mastered ready for release. What is a simple task for some artists is a huge accomplishment for myself. I could have easily fell into deep depression feeling all sorry for myself but instead I chose to keep going and doing what I love to do. I even refuse to be a slave to a disease that is known to cripple people lives. This isn’t me bragging. This is me trying to inspire and motivate others. We are all made in the likeness of God. That alone is reason enough to not allow anything or anyone stop me from doing what I will. That my people, is freedom!

Rest assured that I will be making another entry once the track goes live. I hope all of you will support my endeavour. Trust that there is more music coming in the very near future. ThanX for reading. I wish you all Peace, Love and Light!
